The tree hi-jacker

Day 38 of 100-day Creator Challenge

About nine years ago I planted a seville orange tree at Martin’s house. When the tree finally fruited four years ago, Martin thought it was a really bad orange tree, all pith and seeds and extremely bitter.

When I was preparing his house for sale after he died, I figured not many people know what a seville orange is. Not many would appreciate it especially if they weren’t the type who enjoys making things in the kitchen. I went to his place with a gardening bucket and a small shovel to dig it out.

Left: The seville orange looking a bit abandoned amongst the weeds. Right: Transplanted into a large growbag in my small courtyard garden, next to a pot of Galangal shoots that I also dug out from Martin’s garden.

I hope it likes it in its new garden. I will talk to it most days as I water the garden and inspect its branches for new growth.

I know that it is probably in shock right now, but with love I hope it recovers from its grief of being transplanted.

PS: I was telling this story to my friend Shirley F. Rivera. She said she loved the story of this tree hi-jacking. Hence the title.
