Markers

Day 51 of 100-day Creator Challenge

Markers are everywhere. The bigger ones usually don’t go unnoticed like birthdays, anniversaries and new years. Some just roll on like the start or end of the month or week. We may make efforts to do weekly, monthly or quarterly reviews to mark these periods of time. Or rather mark what we have done with those periods of time.

Some markers slip by. We missed celebrating the 8th anniversary of moving into our house on the 19th February. Maybe the significance of having my own house got diluted by recent life events. I do still like looking at the photo I snapped of Jaime when I took her to school on the first day being in the house. The clothes she chose that morning complemented the real-estate SOLD sign.

When I got my gas bill last month, I noted this was also a marker.

I looked at the usage graph and recognised that this marked when Jaime started living with me full time, instead of spending half the time with her dad, and half with me. In our household, gas is only used for hot water and you can definitely see the increase. More dishes to wash up, more clothes in the laundry basket, and another somebody singing in the shower too. And boy, does she like her showers.

I have suggested shorter showers, but I guess it’s better than the alternative of an unkempt teenager.

What markers do you notice? Do you celebrate these?
